SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A deputy patrolling in East Foothills was surprised to see a red car driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Alum Rock Avenue past his patrol car, police said. After passing the patrol car in the wrong direction, the car slowly drifted back to the westbound side of the roadway and ran a red light, police said. The deputy followed and pulled over the driver, Angel Fuentes. When the officer asked Fuentes to turn off the car, he noticed that there were no keys in the ignition, a telltale sign of a stolen car, police said.Inside the car, police said they found a window-punching tool, screwdrivers and other auto burglary tools.Fuentes had a syringe and showed signs of stimulant drug use, police said. The car was allegedly stolen a few blocks away, and the victim had not yet noticed, according to police.Fuentes, 23, who was on probation for a prior car theft, was arrested on charges of auto theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of a hypodermic needle and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
