Stupid Case File for February 16, 2007

Leave something behind?

A burglar left behind a vital clue at a house he had broken into – his mobile phone with a photo of himself on it.

George Burden was recognised by a detective investigating the theft of antiques from the house in Taplow, Buckinghamshire.

Burden, 44, initially tried to claim he had lost his phone and someone else was using it.

However, all the stolen items were found after police searched his home in Slough.

Burden was sentenced yesterday to 160 hours community service at Reading Crown Court.
