NANAIMO -- He sold it for $37, now he has to pay $800 to replace it.

Parksville resident Robert Makkonen was sentenced to one year probation in Nanaimo provincial court after pleading guilty to heisting a custom-made garbage can from a park.

Judge Doug Cowling also ordered the 34-year-old to pay $800 to the City of Parksville to replace the garbage can.

Cowling heard that after removing the metal container, Makkonen took it to a recycling centre where he sold it for $37.
