A Madison man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly trying to shoplift 30 pounds of catfish filets from a local store.

The incident occurred about 9:20 a.m., at Food Giant on North Washington. A store employee told police he saw Rob Hawkins, 38, of Madison, take the catfish filets, conceal them in the front of his pants and cover them with his shirt. Police say Hawkins is 6’2” tall and weighs 160 pounds.

When the employees tried to approach Hawkins, he took off running and the men chased him.

Hawkins was apprehended in a nearby field, and is charged with shoplifting. He also had an active warrant for third-degree battery.
